Hoosiers The player loads

Hoosiers

The player loads discs a little slower than my old standard Sony DVD player is acceptable. Made the hard wired ethernet connection and had the machine on the Internet and connected to Netflix relatively quickly. Blu-Ray movies and DVD playback is excellent. The machine does a great job with standard DVDs. Netflix standard and in High Definition is excellent. Much faster than Movies on Demand over the Internet with DirecTV. It actually streams them so a fast Broadband connection is required. The only drawback with Netflix streaming is that you have to go on the Netflix site and Hoosiers the movie to your Blu-Ray player. I also tested firmware updates and streaming music through the player and everything works great. Nice Hoosiers quality. When you shut down power in the middle of a movie, it forgets everything and you have to start over. Netflix worked a couple of times. Now I always get an error message: DRM-1 Digital Rights Management. Netflix says it s Sony s problem. Sony says their engineers are working on it. It s had two software updates so far most recent installed Dec. 23, 2009 with no fix. Other internet content works fine. If I didn t already get Netflix on my TiVo I would return the Sony. I was amazed at how simple this was to use. I purchased the Linksys Wireless N bridge with this product and after that quick set up, I hook it up to the BD player and 5 minutes later I was watch a good quality film streamed through Netflix. Sony should have included a 1GB thumb drive as they are probably as cheap as the batteries included with the remote control. Additionally, future model should have built in wireless capability. BD playback quality is very good and no more disk skipping issues I had with some Netflix BD. Besides these two shortcomings, I am very please with this product. Set up was a breeze, works great, but we have one minor complaint there is no disc open/close button on the remote. Not a big deal but I would still like to have that option on the remote. I upgraded from the Sony BDP-S300 to this model. Wow, what an amazing difference. The quick start has you going almost immediately, and the load times for a Blu-ray disc are a fraction of what they were with the old player. Picture/sound and menu navigation are great exactly what you d expect from Sony. Because this player is networked, updating the firmware is quick and simple. You basically choose the menu option and the player automatically goes out to the web and grabs the latest firmware update and installs it without any additional user intervention. Beware: this player does not Hoosiers a wireless link, so if you want to connect it to your network wirelessly, you will need to purchase a wireless link separately. I actually prefer a hard connection, so this wasn t much of a concern for me. So far, watching Amazon VOD and YouTube has worked flawlessly. I have had a couple of problems streaming Netflix I have broadband through my cable company, and since I live in a densely populated area, I don t think I have enough bandwidth during peak times to stream HD movies from this service. It has frozen on me a couple of times. Overall, I m amazed with this player.
